Overshot, traditional or innovative
An overshot workshop to inspire you - with traditional motifs worked in a new fashion.
In this three session class, you’ll weave familiar motifs in new and creative ways. Explore color in the warp and tabby weft, alternative methods of obtaining designs (quasi-tapestry and gamp style) and complete a cloth with designs to utilize in a variety of ways.
By setting up your loom with the end goal in mind, you can make multiple motifs simultaneously for use as small gifts, cosmetic or ‘catch-all’ bags, eyeglass cases. lavender sachets, business card holders, purse flaps - the options are only limited by your imagination. Set up a gamp to see what a motif become if treadles in another fashion. The ideas will be numerous and the design possibilities expansive.
Three class sessions, 4 hours each: First class, Intro to Overshot and dressing your loom (pick our your motif and design your warp). Second class, Weaving overshot (tips and techniques). Third class, Finishing techniques (wet-finishing, sewing and completing your project)
All materials provided (fiber and booklet). You will need extra time outside of class to complete your weaving. Bring your own portable or table loom in order to weave in a timely fashion. Need to loan a loom from the studio instead? Contact Jennifer for details.
Prerequisite: Ability to wind a warp and dress a loom.
Course cost: $150
Note: At this time all looms are for in-studio use only. Expanded studio hours will be made available to students enrolled in this course to allow for convenient times to finish the study. After the course has ended, you have 2 weeks to remove your project from the loom.
